Looks like the Kano State govt is really seeking the death penalty for 14-year-old child bride Wasila Tasi'u, who allegedly killed her 35 year old husband, Umar Sani and 3 of his friends with rat poison in the village of Unguwar Yansoro in Kano, 17 days after she was forced to marry him in April 2014.

The case was heard in court yesterday Oct. 30th and AFP's Aminu Abubakar writes that prosecutors at the High Court in Gezawa, have filed an amended complaint that charged the young girl with one count of murder over the killing. Lead prosecutor Lamido Abba Soron-Dinki said that if convicted, the charge is "punishable with death" and indicated the state would seek the maximum penalty.

Tasi'u entered the court wearing a cream-coloured hijab and was escorted by two policemen.

Her parents, who have condemned their daughter's alleged act, were in the public gallery -- the first time the three were in the same room since Tasi'u's arrest in April, her legal representatives said.

The English-language charge sheet was translated into Hausa for the accused by the court clerk.

Tasi'u refused to answer when asked if she understood the charges.

The case was adjourned for 30 minutes so the charges could be better explained to the defendant, but when the alleged offences were read again Tasi'u stayed silent, turned her head to the wall and broke down in tears.

"The court records (that) she pleads not guilty," Judge Mohammed Yahaya said, apparently regarding her silence as equal to a denial of the charges and adjourned the case until November 26

Lucky girl -Girl's present from dad turns her into a multimillionaire on her 19th birthday

19 year old Deisi Ocampo from Chicago is now a multimillionaire after accepting and scratching two lottery tickets her dad gave her as birthday present on October 6th.

Deisi told ABC News exactly what happened

"I rarely play the lottery. My dad buys tickets once in a while and thought it would fun to get me two tickets for my birthday. The following day, I didn’t think much of it when I scratched off the first set of numbers. But when I finished scratching the second ticket, I began to shake and sweat out of nervousness. I just couldn’t believe it was real.”

 The birthday girl had won $4 million dollars.

Deise said she immediately called her father who was also stunned.

“He couldn’t believe it. He thought I was teasing him. When I told him I had won, he asked if it was $500, and I said, ‘No $4 million!’”

On how she plans to spend the money

"I will share with my dad so he can buy a new home for my mom, dad and sister,” she said. “I plan to use a portion to pay for college since I want to become a nurse and take care of babies.”

When asked if this was the best birthday present she’s ever received, Deisi replied, “Definitely!”

Keshi is bk to work as coach ....

Super Eagles Coach, Steven Keshi who was recently relieved of his post as the team’s coach is back. The media officer of the Super Eagles, Toyin Ibitoye announced this on twitter this morning.

Findings also revealed that Keshi has been asked to return to his post as part of reconciliatory moves in the Nigeria Football Federation as ordered by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The President also advised the faction of Chris Giwa to withdraw its case from court to ensure that Nigeria is not banned by FIFA.  NFF is yet to release an official statement.

Girl-Bride Who Killed Husband & Three Others Goes Dumb In Court

Most of you will remember the 14-year old girl-bride who poisoned her husband’s meal in April for forcefully marrying her and not allowing her continue her studies. Unfortunately, some of his friends who came visiting the day she decided to poison his meal so that she could be ‘free’ ate out of the food and three of them died. Wasila was charged to court, but some human rights body have stood for her saying she was young and ignorant.

Wasila was arraigned in court yesterday in kano but after the court registrar read the charge to her repeatedly, she formed dumb refusing to say a word; Here’s howVanguard reports it.

There was a mild drama at Gezawa High Court, Kano, yesterday as a girl-bride, Wasila Tasi, suspected to have killed her husband and three others in April, failed to utter a word in court during her trial.

The high profile culpable homicide case that attracted the attention of the human rights community was nearly stalled by refusal of the 14-year-old suspect to speak.

Consequently, the presiding judge, Justice Muhammad Yahaya was compelled to enter a plea of ‘not guilty’ on her behalf shortly after the charged sheet was read and explained to her in the local dialect.

Wasila, looking perturbed at the dock, was repeatedly asked whether she understood the content of what was read before her, but each time she failed to utter a word as the court registrar ran through the four-count charge of culpable homicide punishable by death under Section 221 A of the Penal Code.

The decision of the court to enter a plea of not guilty on her behalf revived the case as the prosecution counsel, Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, offered to line up five witnesses to prove the merit of the case.

The presiding judge, therefore, adjourned the matter to November 26 and 27 to continue hearing and also ordered that the suspect be returned to remand home.

Andy Johnston,was left behind when his fellow surfers and swimmers were alerted by car horns sounding from the car park above.As most surfers scrambled onto the reef, onlookers watched in fear as he was still in the water with the shark closing in on him. He told Esperance express his casual approach was a decision made on adrenaline.He said...

"I'd rather try to hold my ground against it and not freak out and make a commotion,It seemed just curious and I didn't want to give it a reason to chase me so I tried to behave casually and keep an eye on it.But I didn't know it came up quite so close as I was paddling into the wave to come into the beach with the other lads."

Politics-Oshiomhole To Drag EFCC To Court For Abandoning Constitutional Role & Becoming A ‘Political Commission’

Edo State Governor, Com. Adams Oshiomhole yesterday at a townhall meeting in Benin has said he is preparing to drag EFCC to court for allegedly abandoning its constitutional role and becoming a ‘political commission’. 

The Governor stated this while trying to query the Commission’s right in investigating the impeachment of a deputy speaker in the state.

“Our own EFCC is now Economic Financial and alleged Political Crimes. I am still unable to understand how EFCC assumed responsibility to investigate impeachment of a Deputy Speaker. That is how far the EFCC has degenerated.

“When armed robbers are the ones looking for thieves then the story will change. We are watching how things will go. We have assembled a legal team to take EFCC to court to challenge their authority to become a political commission. We will fight them on our feet and never beg them on our knees. We will show them respect but never shall we display an act of cowardice. We want to see how far they can go. The greatest weapon is to deliver on good governance,” he said.

A 32-year-old man, Mr. Simon Mbam, of Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has committed suicide after he was tortured by some villagers for allegedly stealing N1,000 from a shop in the market.

The victim, who jumped into a pond in the area last weekend, found himself in the mess when he left his house in the evening of the fateful day to buy drinks with his friends.

While late Simon and his friends were busy sipping their drinks, the owner of the shop raised an alarm over a missing N1,000 in his carton of drinks, but no customer admitted to haven taken the money.

The alarm raised by the shop owner attracted villagers who stormed the scene and gave the suspects till the following day to return the money or face the consequences.

It was learned that the said missing money was found at the door step of the shop, but when the villagers who were determined to get to the root of the matter gathered, the owner of the shop insisted on knowing the person behind the act.

Vanguard further gathered that the suspect, who later confessed to the crime, was allegedly beaten by the irate villagers until he started bleeding and losing consciousness.

They demanded that he should be treated like a thief, even as he was fined two goats, two crates of beer and N5,000, which were immediately provided by the suspect’s mother (names withheld).

It was gathered that the village head rejected what the suspect’s mother brought, insisting that an additional N5,000 should be provided so that the matter would be completely resolved without involving the police.

This second demand by the villagers made the suspect, who felt humiliated by the entire process, escape from his captors and jumped into Aku Pond, which was not far from the market square.

All efforts to rescue him on time proved abortive as he drowned before his body was retrieved by the villagers.

Meanwhile, four persons including the village head, had been arrested by the police after the mother of the victim reported the matter.

Nigerian Girl Dies In Bangkok After Attempting Buttock Augmentation

Joy Willaims, a 23-year old Nigerian girl has left her families in sorrow after travelling to Bangkok this month for a buttock augmentation without their consent.

Joy travelled to Bangkok with £2000 to have the surgery at SP clinic which turned out to be a success at first, but shortly after that, it turned out that her wounds had already become infected.

She rushed back for a corrective surgery, but sadly Joy died on the operating table. Continue...

Her family has denied ever knowing she travelled to Bangkok and said she was a girl loved by all. Here is what her brother who spoke to Dailymail from Lagos said about her demise;

“We don't really know what went wrong, we only know what is in reports in the media. She was a very nice and caring person.She brought joy to people's lives.She was a beautiful girl, loved by everybody. We will miss her so much.'


He added that family members are planning to visit the country so they could get her corspe.

The doctor who carried out the procedure, Sompob Sansiri, has however been arrested and officials say they have already started investigating the cause of her death.

Though born in Lagos, Joy moved to Thamesmead with her mom in 2007 and had visited Thailand twice before deciding to go for the surgery.

Disturbing  new images have emerged showing young Syrian children being trained at a military camp run by ISIS.

The photos were shared online by a secret anti-ISIS group " Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently" . The  school near the jihadis' capital Raqqa, show children barely older than five being taught basic combat and survival skills, learning how to use  assault rifles, and being given lessons in extremist ideology.

The whole idea is to catch them young and distort their ideology. They are made to choose if they want to be suicide bombers or jihadis to and forced to repeat calls for murder of western 'infidels'

According to the activist group, the objective of the school is to wildly distort the views of young Raqqa residents, creating an entire generation for whom the idea of Islamic extremism and acts of terrorism are second nature.

Jennifer Lopez has candidly detailed her split with Marc Anthony in her new book True Love.. 

The couple who wed in June 2004 had just celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary when they announced their split..In excerpts from the book as detailed by People Magazine, the 45 year old writes.. 

'Anybody looking from the outside in would have thought my life was great.I had a husband and two beautiful children. I was on American Idol and my new single On The Floor had gone to number one all over the world.What people didn't know was that life really wasn't that good. My relationship was falling apart and I was terrified.'  

 She revealed she made the decision to end the marriage after suffering a panic attack while preparing for a photoshoot.

'As I sat there getting made up, my heart was beating out of my chest and I felt like I couldn't breathe... I became consumed with anxiety,' she writes in the tome as detailed by a People excerpt.  What was happening to me? I leaped from my chair and said to my dear manager Benny Medina, "Benny, something is happening! I feel like I'm going crazy." My mom was there and she rushed to my side too.
'It was one of those moments when you're so scared you can't even scream. In a blur of fear and panic, I looked at Benny and my mother and blurted out the words: "I don't think I can be with Marc anymore." Then I burst into tears.
'It was out, Jennifer recalls. 'The thing I feared more than anything in the world. I collapsed into their arms and began to sob.'

She also admitted she has suffered abuse in past relationships

I've never gotten a black eye or busted lip but I've been in relationships where I have been abused in one way or another: mentally, emotionally, verbally,' she reveals. 'I know what it feels like for your soul to be diminished by the way your loved one is treating you.
'It took me years to figure out that, in that kind of relationship the intensity and the conflict are really coming from two people.
'Because every day you don't walk out that door, every day you accept things in a partner and in yourself, is a day that you're saying it's okay.'

Woman kills man who she claimed tried to rape her

An unidentified suspected rapist has been killed in the Lekki area of Lagos State while attempting to rape a 22-year-old woman, Ifeoma Okechukwu.

It was learnt that the incident happened on Monday, around 12.30pm, in Atlantic View Estate, Alpha Beach Road, Lekki.
Punch learnt that Okechukwu was on her menstrual period and had gone out to buy sanitary pads.

The Imo State indigene was said to be on her way back home when she was accosted by the stranger.

She said,

 “After buying the sanitary pads, I was going back home when I saw a man, who should be in his forties, standing at a corner. He approached me and ordered me to take him to my house.“He put his hand into his pocket as if he wanted to bring out a weapon. He said he would kill me if I shouted.When we got to the house, he said I should shut the door and I did. He said I should remove my clothes; and I started begging him, but he refused to listen.So I told him to let me get to the kitchen because I was cooking something and I would be back. I got a rod and hid it in my wrapper. I went back and moved slowly towards him, still begging, but he refused.He was taking off his clothes and wearing a condom when I used the rod to hit him in the head. I started screaming. And then I picked the phone and called my uncle.”

The victim’s uncle, who pleaded anonymity, told Punch Metro that he went to report the matter at the Ilasan Police Station after learning what had happened.

He said, 

“I was not at home when the incident happened and her younger brother had also gone out. So, she was alone in the house and it was possible he had been monitoring her movement.When she called me and said what had happened, I left the office and went to the police station in Jakande Estate where I reported the matter.”

A police source told our correspondent that investigators found a pack of condoms on the deceased, including a phone without a SIM card.

The source added that since the incident happened, no one had shown up to claim the man’s corpse.

He said, 

“He was about wearing the condom when the girl hit him on the head and he died. His mission was to rape her and steal from the house. He probably took advantage of her frail stature.We have got information that he was not alone. He belonged to a gang that has been terrorising Lekki residents for some time now. And that’s why since this incident, nobody knows his name and address, and none of his relatives has come forward to say they know him.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, promised to call our correspondent back, but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Okechukwu was however said to have been arrested and detained in police custody.
